During the Candle Wisdom project, each school must implement a set of local activities that will be directly related to the promotion of reading and writing. One of these activities is the organization of a thematic week devoted to literature.

In this sense, the Marinheira school held between the 19th and 22nd of March the Book Fair 2019. The main theme of this edition was the 600 years of the Discovery of Madeira Island.

The Book Fair was open to the entire educational community, allowing contact with a wide variety of children’s books and still some examples for the most grown. The turnout to the fair was great. Both students, as teachers, employees, parents and other relatives had the opportunity to visit the Book Fair.

In order to enrich this event, several sessions of traditional tales were held by some students of the 3rd and 4th grades for all classes.

This event was concluded on the 22nd of March, having as special guests the Madeiran writer Graça Alves and illustrator Nelson Henriques. The students of the 3rd and 4th grades presented a show titled The Adventures of Constança and Gonçalo, an ode to friendship, the importance of reading as a dream vehicle and, of course, a tribute to the island of Madeira: the enchanted paradise. This dramatization was based on the works Constança and Constança: the surprise, of the guest writer Graça Alves and illustrated by Nelson Henriques. Then, some students had the opportunity to read their texts, where they imagined a continuation of the story of the kitten Constança. To conclude, the illustrious guests, delighted with the performance of the students, talked about their experience in creating the books addressed, both in writing and in the part of the illustration. They spoke of the contribution of reading to happiness and still answered some questions made by the students. It was a very tender and rewarding interchange for everyone.

The Book Fair was an interesting spectacle, enriching and well appreciated by all. Impossible not to dive into the Magic of reading!
